A grimy, lurid look beneath the sheets off victorian London. This book is extremely well executed and at close to a 1000 pages it, miraculously, doesn't drag! However there are 2 reasons why this book failed to reach 5 stars for me: 1st: The book is crude and while that's not a problem in itself (it's about a prostitute after all) there are moments that you feel really didn't need to be here & the cynic in me thinks they may have been included for controversy only.2nd: The addressing of the reader by the narrator starts off quite well but then wanes before almost stopping altogether, then suddenly it's back to round things off. It's a little irritating. All in all though a fantastic read that will have you running to the shower when you're done.
